Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs about My Ministry

Why are missionaries needed in Tokyo?

  • Tokyo is home to over 35 million people but only about 1% of them are Christian

  • The Japanese are the second largest unreached people group in the world

  • Tokyo is an international hub where people from all over Asia gather

  • While other Asian countries like China and South Korea have seen an explosion of Christianity recently, Japan has yet to experience much growth

What organization are you working with?

I am serving as a missionary with ReachGlobal which is the international missions organization of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA). They currently have over 500 missionaries in over 60 countries. ReachGlobal’s mission is to glorify God by multiplying transformational churches among all people. They accomplish this by developing, empowering, and releasing nationals to lead and in turn plant churches. I love being a part of ReachGlobal and the EFCA because of their missions-centric vision and commitment to discipleship. You can learn more about the EFCA by watching the video below.

How long are you going for?

I’m committed to serving long-term in Japan. It’s said among missionaries in Japan that the average Japanese person has to hear the Gospel ten times before they seriously consider it. I realized that if I want to make a lasting impact that I needed stay longer. After my first two years I saw the continued need and felt God calling me to serve long-term. I plan on staying in Japan for as long as God has me there. That could mean two years or twenty.

Are you learning the language?

Yes, I am learning Japanese. I have a basic knowledge of the language and I’m able to get around, but when I get back to Japan I’m going to jump into full-time language learning until I am more comfortable with Japanese. Generally this means about two years of classes. My desire is to be better equipped to do ministry in the heart language of the people I am ministering to.

How can I stay connected with you?

The best way to stay up to date on me and my ministry and keep updated on prayer requests is to sign up for my newsletter. I send it out every other month. You can go to the sign up form here.
